How can nutrition help with my fertility and health?
It is well documented that changes to diet can be one of the best ways to support your fertility and health for both men and for women. Kirsty our Nutritional Therapist, uses evidence-based research to promote health and wellness through diet and lifestyle changes. Using nutrition alongside our other therapies is one of the THE best ways to optimise health and fertility.
Kirsty will take a detailed case history to understand if any nutritional deficiencies or imbalances may be contributing to a particular symptom or health concern. It is important to ensure that we get to the root cause of why a symptom is presenting. Nutritional Therapy looks at each person as an individual and does not take a one size fits all approach.
What areas of fertility and women’s health can nutrition help with?
- Women with a history of miscarriage.
- Women with known gynaecological conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids and PCOS, or problems with ovulation.
- Older couples who would like to increase their chance of a healthy conception.
- Men with low sperm count or sperm quality.
- Couples who would like nutritional support to improve the success rate of IVF.
What are your qualifications?
Kirsty is a fully insured and registered Nutritional Therapist graduating from the College of Naturopathic Medicine in 2017. She is registered with both the British Association of Nutritional Therapists (BANT) and the Complimentary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC).
Plus she is a Certified Practitioner for the Fertility Nutrition Centre which means I have carried out extensive further training in Fertility Nutrition.
Are you going to just going to tell me to eat more vegetables?
Yes and no, generally everyone could do with eating more vegetables – even Kirsty! But Nutritional Therapy is so much more than that.
She will look at your symptoms, work to identify any underlying causes and then put together a nutrition, lifestyle and supplement plan to support your health goals. This can be done alongside and fully integrated with the other practitioners in this clinic so you will have a dream team of specialists getting to the root cause of your issues and optimising your health for overall well being and fertility.
But I think my diet is already pretty good – I have reduced caffeine, alcohol and sugar?
That is great! But there might be specific nutrients you are missing or foods that are triggering a symptom to present. It might also be that you have gut issues or hormone imbalances that need to be addressed. There is so much more to consider.
How long will it take to see results?
Nutritional Therapy is a long game. You will not see immediate results and you need to be as consistent as possible. Having said that, the changes suggested will be manageable and your lifestyle and situation is always taken into consideration.
How many sessions will I need?
Like all our therapists we always recommend working together over a 3-month period. However, it may be possible for you to get the encouragement and support you need when you come in for your other appointments therefore meaning you won’t need to see Kirsty as often. We collaborate on your care and support and all work together to give you as much integrated support as possible. A plan of action you are happy with can be discussed at our initial appointment and this can be shared across any practitioners you use alongside nutrition.
